Info: The Founder:
In 1933, TATEISHI Kazuma started manufacturing precision timers for X-ray machines in Osaka.
For decades, the company operated under the family name TATEISHI Electric Manufacturing.
The OMRON Trademark:
In 1959, the company established a new plant in the Omuro district of Kyoto.
To boost global exports, they registered ‘OMRON’ as a trademark because it was much easier for international markets to pronounce.
The 1990 Rebranding:
In January 1990, to celebrate its long-term corporate vision and unify its global brand, the company officially dropped the family name from its legal title, changing from OMRON Tateisi Electronics Co. to OMRON Corporation.
World-First Innovations:
Under the TATEISHI name, the company invented the world's first contactless electronic switch (1960), the first automated train ticket gate (1967), and the first online automated teller machine (ATM) (1971).
The Legacy:
The TATEISHI family remains central to the company’s history.
The TATEISHI Science and Technology Foundation still promotes international research in electronics and automation today.
