This system allows users to write, edit, preserve and use programs to solve their equations and data handling problems with unprecedented cost efficiency.

The 960 was designed with automatic permanent subroutines for most common scientific functions (i.e. SIN, COS, XY, etc.).
However, most realize that every professional scientist or engineer within his own discipline may have several valuable routines that are particularly important to his endeavors.
To fill this need, Rockwell incorporated the ability of allowing the user to redefine the operation of ten keys.
Therefore, by moving a switch to ‘CUS-TOM’, users can "customize" the keyboard operation of those ten keys to execute any desired pre-programmed routine.
